ROUND TABLE BUFFALO RULES:
1 You may only drink with your left hand.
2 You may be buffalo'ed without a badge, but you must be wearing one to buffalo, someone
3 You may not deliberately buffalo yourself
4 Your membership is for life.
5 Use the buffalo greeting when greeting fellow buffaloes. (The foot shake)
6 The wording after being buffalo'ed is: "that was most reasonable, thank you."
With regards to a Buffalo zone (that will be called by the convenor of a meeting, eg . The President, Area Chairman, or Table Chairman) the only difference to the norm is that "Non Buffalo" members may also be Buffalo'ed, but the rule stays the same that you can only Buffalo if you are wearing a pin . The whole idea is to get "Non Buffalo members" to join the club!
THE RULES OF THE BUFFALO CLUB adopted by Round Table states that you must drink with your left hand (98% of people are right-handed), giving left-handedTablers quite the advantage.
In 1992 South Cape Area Chairmen, Ola Grinaker (92/93) & Trevor Griffin (95/96) introduced the Buffalo Club to Round Table Southern Africa at ARTSA 92 held in Port Elizabeth. As a pilot run, 1000 pins were made with some 800 being sold in two days at the South African assembly. The official & iconic gold pins feature the Cape buffalo by design, either a full-body buffalo or
a buffalo headpin.
SINCE THE INTRODUCTION, Round Table South Cape Area has been the sole custodian of the Buffalo Club both nationally & internationally (RTI). Rikus "Running Bare" Badenhorst, past RTI President, played an instrumental role in promoting & implementing the Buffalo Club as an international movement. Badenhorst also ensured that the Club is synonymous with Southern Africa & more specifically the South Cape Area.
The next time you hear the words "Buffalo!" when a member drinks with their right hand, take a minute to appreciate the origin of this beloved Round Table tradition.
